The Association of Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Technicians (ARACT) was established in 2009 to ensure that all RAC technicians in Belize are licensed, competent, and operate safely while upholding environmental and professional standards.
All individuals or companies engaged in refrigeration and air-conditioning services within Belize are required to register and obtain a valid technician license as mandated by the Refrigeration Technicians Licensing Act, 2010.
The application fee is $10 BZD.
Non-members: $200 BZD (new or renewal)
Members: $125 BZD (new or renewal)
Becoming a member helps reduce your licensing costs while providing access to additional professional benefits.
Members enjoy discounted license fees, exclusive access to training and certification programs, networking with industry professionals, technical support, and recognition as certified RAC specialists.
Yes. ARACT works closely with the Department of the Environment (DOE) and other partners to host workshops, technical courses, and certification programs that enhance professional development and promote safe, sustainable cooling practices.
You can apply or renew your license by completing the ARACT registration form and submitting it along with your $10 BZD application fee.
Once approved, you will receive payment instructions for your license fee:
Non-members: $200 BZD
Members: $125 BZD
Licenses are valid for one year. Applicants are encouraged to become members to access lower fees, training, and professional support.
All applicable registration and renewal forms can be found under the Resources tab on our website.
Regular maintenance ensures your system is running optimally. Technicians clean coils, check refrigerant levels, and inspect components, which prevents the unit from overworking. A well-maintained unit uses significantly less energy, leading to lower utility bills and a reduced carbon footprint.
The most common causes include dirty air filters, blocked condenser coils, low or incorrect refrigerant charge, and poor insulation or air leaks in the building. An ARACT certified technician is trained to diagnose and correct all these issues efficiently.
Yes. ARACT encourages the use of modern, energy-efficient technologies such as inverter-driven systems. Our members are continuously trained on the installation and maintenance of these advanced units, ensuring you receive advice on the best long-term, energy-saving solutions for your home or business.
An improperly sized unit—either too large or too small—will run inefficiently. A unit that is too large cycles on and off too frequently, wasting energy and failing to dehumidify the air. A unit that is too small runs constantly. ARACT technicians are trained to perform accurate load calculations for optimal sizing.
The simplest and most effective step is to regularly clean or replace your air filters (monthly is ideal). Additionally, ensure that the outdoor condenser unit is free of debris and that your thermostat is set to a reasonable, consistent temperature to avoid overworking the system.
You should always ask to see the technician's official ARACT identification card and their current license issued under the Refrigeration Technicians Licensing Act, 2010. We recommend using the official ARACT online verification tool (if available) to confirm their status before any work begins.
To expedite your service, please have the following ready: a clear description of the issue (e.g., "not cooling," "leaking water"), the brand and model of your unit(s), and the best time and date for the technician to visit.
The ARACT Code of Conduct mandates that all certified members operate with integrity, transparency, and professionalism. It protects you by ensuring fair pricing, high-quality workmanship, and ethical behavior. The ARACT Council oversees the enforcement of this code.
If you are dissatisfied, you can file a formal complaint with the Council of ARACT. The Council is responsible for enforcing ethics and discipline within the profession and will investigate the matter to ensure compliance with industry standards and the Code of Conduct.
Absolutely. ARACT certified technicians are rigorously trained in responsible refrigerant management, a key part of our partnership with the Department of the Environment (DOE). They strictly adhere to protocols for the recovery, recycling, and safe disposal of refrigerants, ensuring full compliance with Belize's national environmental laws and our obligations under the Montreal Protocol.
Our membership provides valuable networking opportunities with industry professionals, businesses, and government agencies.
